In 2024, Azerbaijan will be the venue for the 29th session of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29), one of the largest and most important interstate events in the world. This important event, which is considered a great success for Azerbaijan, can be seen both as an activity of the state in accordance with the national priority “Clean Environment and Green Growth of the country” defined for 2030, and as a logical continuation of the country's strategy of transition to a green economy.
Various research works are implemented at the Economic Scientific Research Institute (ESRI) with the aim of contributing to the nation's efforts to combat global climate change, achievement of its goals, application of environmentally friendly technologies and product development.
As an example, in 2011-2012 with the support of the Turkish Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), a research project on “Study of Turkey's experience in the development of organic agriculture in Azerbaijan and development of interagency cooperation” was implemented at the Institute. The supporting textbook “Environment Friendly Agriculture for Future Generations”, developed as a result of the study, has been recommended for teaching in secondary schools by the relevant decree of the Minister of Education.
In 2012 the research work on the theme “Study of prospects of development of ecologically clean agriculture on the grounds of German experience” aimed at studying the possibilities of application of German experience in the direction of development of ecologically clean agriculture in our country was fulfilled.
Moreover, in 2013, in order to develop a plan for the development of ecologically clean agriculture on the basis of the study of world experience, a research work was carried out in the ESRI on “Theoretical aspects, research issues and development of priorities for the development of ecologically clean agriculture (on the example of Guba-Khachmaz economic region)”. As a result of the research work, the concept of “Project Proposals for the Development of Ecologically Clean Agriculture” and the draft “Strategy and Action Plan for the Development of Ecologically Clean Agriculture in the Republic of Azerbaijan (2014-2020)” were prepared. The aforementioned projects were aligned with the conceptual directions of the necessary state policy, strategic goals and objectives, necessary regulatory measures and other topical issues in the direction of the development of this sphere in our country.
In addition, the “Green skills and jobs” chapter of the “Green Economy” monograph for publication at UNEC was worked at the Economic Scientific Research Institute.
Currently, research work has been launched at the ESRI on the topic “Features of the development of the green economy, international experience and requirements” according to Point 1.2 of the Action Plan 2024-2026.
