On June 30th, 2022, an international regional seminar on the topic “Asset recovery as part of the fight against corruption: new trends and challenges” was held in a hybrid format with the organization of the Ministry of Justice and International Association of Anti- Anticorruption Authorities (IAACA).
Officials of IAACA and other international organizations, about 100 representatives from Azerbaijan, Turkey, China (Hong Kong), Georgia, Lithuania, Romania, Belgium and other countries, including employees of anti-corruption institutions, judges, prosecutors, as well as representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Economy and Ministry of Finance, State Security Service and civil society participated at the seminar. Shukur Guliyev and Bahlul Yusifli - ESRI employees represented the institution at the seminar.
Fikrat Mammadov, Minister of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and vice-president of the IAACA made the grand opening of the event. The floor was then given to Sally Kwan, Secretary General of the IAACA. Mrs. Kwan joined the seminar in a virtual format and noted that the seminar will definitely contribute to the common interests of the association.
Ms. Ruhşen Tuzun Yulek, the lecturer of the Turkish Academy of Justice, Allen Ng judge, chief forensic accountant-expert of ICAC (Hong Kong, PRC), Ms. Silvia Florescu, the chief attorney of the National Anti-Corruption Agency of Romania, Lasha Tsatsua, the investigator on special cases of the Anti-Corruption Department of the General Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, Walter Kirinen, Deputy Head of the Central Office on Property Seizure and Confiscation of the Belgian Prosecutor's Office (Belgian Asset Recovery Office), Simon Grebelis, Chief of the Monitoring and Coordination Department of the Investigation Coordination Department of the Special Investigation Service of Lithuania, Twinning Advisor resident in Azerbaijan, shared the experiences of their countries in the field of asset recovery and informed about new trends, adopted laws, and interesting examples in this field. At the end of the seminar, a number of participants addressed their questions to the speakers.
