Dean of School of IT and Engineering of ADA University, Sencer Yeralan, delivered a public lecture at the Economic Scientific Research Institute (ESRI) on the topic “4 Decades at the Academy: Changes, Challenges and Opportunities” on February 22nd, 2022.
Professor Yeralan dwelt on the education system, in particular on the Bologna system applied at the universities, the assessment system on the Key Performance Indicators, the dependence of the selection of majors on the market demand, the importance of knowing history in the education and etc.
He stressed that the weakening of mentorship relations between professors and students reduced the effectiveness of the education. In addition, he brought up his concern that the youth is currently more interested in the financial gains rather than in the things concerning the area of their interest. According to him, there should be a systematic approach to the education issues and while solving the problems the vision into the future should be determined.
In his speech, Professor Yeralan, also, dwelt on the relative indicators between women and men in the education and work environment based on the statistical data covering the period up to 2015 from the International Labour Organisation.
In the end, ESRI representatives addressed their questions to Professor Yeralan and shared their views on the issue.
