A press conference dedicated to the results of the activity of the “Economic Scientific Research Institute” public legal entity (Institute) under the Ministry of Economy and its future plans was held. Chair of the Board of Directors, Mahir Humbatov, delivered a presentation on the works implemented by the Institute and perspective plans.
He reported that the Institute took part in the development of strategies and programs on different topics. The Institute carried out research on different areas and studied the progressive experience of different countries on the leading role of digital technology in the development of the “Smart city” concept. In 2022 the Institute organized joint events and meetings with Economic Cooperation Organization, CAREC Institute, Polish Centre For Eastern Studies, “Bloomberg L.P”, Georgian ”ISET” Policy Institute, Georgian Foundation for Strategic and International Studies and other entities and started cooperation. Also, the Institute was elected to be the member of the Forum of Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
It was noted that the number of specialties in the doctorate program was increased from 6 to 12 and the number of seats for specialties was raised from 18 to 33. The number of applicants to the doctoral and dissertation programs was raised from 2 to 15 people. In 2022 11 doctoral students having completed their dissertation past initial hearing, 6 students defended their dissertations. The programs of minimum examinations for specializations “Technological Innovations Economy”, “Organisation and Management of Enterprises”, “Organisation of Industry and Public Policy” and “Econometrics: Economic Statistics” were prepared and submitted to the High Attestation Commission.
The Institute envisages organization of nationwide and international scientific article writing competition in connection with the announcement of 2023 as “The Heydar Aliyev Year” in Azerbaijan. In addition, the Institute plans to organize international conferences on the topic “Heydar Aliyev and Azerbaijan’s Economy”, and the 3rd Forum of Think Tanks of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
It was noted that during this year the Institute envisages launching its official websites in 3 languages (Azerbaijani, Russian and English) www.esri.gov.az and www.theesri.com) and intends to open its social network pages. Also, the Institute is creating its e-library and unified e-journal platform.
