In between 1977 and 1982 he received his higher education at the school of Automation of Production Processes at Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry institute (current Azerbaijan State Oil Academy). Having completed his postgraduate program from 1983 to 1986 he defended his dissertation at Moscow Electronic Equipment Institute in the field of automation of design of big systems and was deemed worthy of a scientific degree of candidate of technical sciences. Having engaged in scientific and pedagogical activity he worked as an assistant professor and professor at the School of Automation of Production Processes at Azerbaijan Oil and Chemistry Institute from 1986 to 1996. Having defended his PhD dissertation dedicated to the management of investment processes in 2006 Namig Tagiyev was conferred upon a degree of a doctor of economic sciences. In No vember of 2006 he was appointed as a director of Economic Reforms Centre (current Economic Scientific Research Institute) under the Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Since 2007 he was appointed as a head of “Economic Cybernetics” department of Baku State University. In 2013 he was conferred upon an academic degree of a professor of economics. In between 2009 and 2011 he served as a director of National Metrology Centre at the State Committee on Standardisation, Metrology and Patent. From 2017 till 2021 he served as a general-director of Azerbaijan Standardization Institute.
Namig Tagiyev is the author of more than 100 scientific works published in Azerbaijan and abroad which are dedicated to the actual problems of Azerbaijani economy. He also wrote 5 monographs and 2 textbooks.
